about
Sophie Yu is a senior engineer at Harvey Mudd College focusing on Design, Manufacturing, and Management (DMM). Since 2018, she has been a member of the Henry E. and Gayle Riggs Fellowship in Engineering Management. As part of this fully funded fellowship, she has consulted in the aerospace and plastics industries - using her experience in Lean/Six Sigma, Industrial Engineering, and Engineering Management to cultivate innovation. Her work through the Riggs Fellowship to bridge the gap between people and processes has resulted in more than $500,000 in annualized savings and remarkable improvements in managerial trust, organization, and culture.
Outside of the Riggs Fellowship, Sophie has worked in the packaging industry to design and improve high speed packing machines for stick pack products. Over the summer of 2020, she also worked in international manufacturing operations for Juniper Networks. At Juniper she collected and analyzed yield data from overseas manufacturing operations to help managers better identify method to reduce cost and improve quality.
Currently, Sophie is working with the City of Hope National Medical Center to design and implement an improved medical testing device.
